“The Impact of Women’s Ordination on the Episcopal Church Fifty Years Ago and Now”

WATER celebrates the fiftieth anniversary of the momentous ordinations in the Episcopal Church by asking what it meant and what it means.

Join us with Bishop Jennifer Baskerville-Burrows, recently elected Vice President of the House of Bishops; the Rev. Dr. Carter Heyward, one of the 1974 ordinands; Darlene O’Dell, author of the book The Story of the Philadelphia Eleven (50^th anniversary edition); and Margo Guernsey, director of the documentary film The Philadelphia Eleven for a thoughtful conversation.

We highly recommend reading the book and/or watching the film before the event though it is by no means obligatory. The book is available through Church Publishing. Information on viewing the film for $5 will be provided to those who register. Register below.

The Feminist Conversations in Religion Series is a monthly meeting of minds, free and open to the public. For over five years, we have facilitated the sharing of great ideas, and enjoyed witnessing leading scholars and ministers as they share their research and experiences. These meetings have included a wide cross-section of people from many different traditions and backgrounds. WATER is proud to offer these valuable and exciting opportunities on a regular basis.

Typically hosted by Mary E. Hunt, the format includes a 20-25 minute presentation by a featured guest, followed by a Q&A session. Recordings and transcripts of the conversations are available below at no cost. We invite you to use them as educational resources.
